A fabulous forever home in the heart of rural Selwyn district, this
home won Canterbury Master Builders House of the Year for 2020.
Having sold the farm, The Shadbolt’s wanted to retire into a large footprint, expansive, rustic style fortress. Complete with stone and timber feature walls and native timber interior beams.
Lee Johnstone set about sketching conceptual drawings of the new home working closely with The Shadbolt’s over several months, to refine the details and begin working drawings.
Louie McKenzie Builders completed the technical build. The owners were heavily involved in the home’s interior design, which included kauri timber trusses and beams and high vault ceilings.

The resulting award-winning house exceeded all expectations and its retired farmer owners are thrilled to be living the dream, in a home they collaborated so closely on.
